“Surely, two of the most satisfying experiences in life must be those of being a grandchild and or a grandparent.”– Donalid A Norber
Fourteen years ago today, my life changed. Fourteen years and one day ago, I was a father. A day later, I became a grandfather. I had no idea how I would feel – or what a difference that simple event would make in my life.
Feelings of joy, love, amazement, and optimism flowed. Before he arrived, I had no idea how powerful that tiny being would be in my life – immediately.
My view of the future changed instantly. The range of my life extended another generation. We were now a three-generation family. It had been hard to imagine what having a third generation in the family would feel like – but suddenly, it was easy to imagine fourth, fifth, sixth, and even seventh generations.
The long-term future was clearer – and brighter. Optimism was the word of the day. I immediately started thinking about the future opportunities that lay ahead for this child and how I could make that future more positive, sounder, safer, and exciting.
Life seemed, somehow, grander and more powerful – now that I was a grandfather.
Cole came into my life 14 years ago today and has since been joined in our family by Kennedy, Lauren, Grayson, Drew, and Zoey. They are six unique blessings and packages of joy and optimism – and hope for the future!
They are powerful!
